Site Manager (South)

Overview

In this role, you will oversee a portfolio of closed landfill sites across the Southern region, ensuring environmental compliance and safe, cost-effective aftercare. You’ll balance site inspections, contractor oversight, and regulatory liaison to optimise gas and leachate systems while supporting budgets and improvement projects. You work closely with cross-functional teams to meet regional objectives and safeguard environmental performance. This position offers a hands-on, impact-driven opportunity to shape waste management outcomes in a large-scale operation.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of closed landfill sites ensuring ongoing environmental permit and safety compliance
• Conduct regular site inspections and oversee contractors to complete aftercare safely and to standard
• Operate landfill gas collection and leachate control systems, identifying performance improvements
• Own aftercare budgets, monitor expenditure, control costs and support capital projects
• Develop short/medium/long-term site management plans to maintain compliance and improve performance
• Collaborate with operational, environmental, engineering, compliance, finance and safety teams to deliver regional objectives
• Build relationships with regulators, authorities, landlords, contractors and stakeholders, representing the business professionally
• Provide health, safety and compliance support to operational sites in the Southern region, handling incidents and regulatory issues

Key requirements

• Proven experience in landfill or waste management operations with strong environmental compliance knowledge
• Experience managing landfill gas and/or leachate systems and interpreting technical data
• Strong financial management including budgeting, cost control and project management
• Proactive, organized, safety-first approach with ability to work independently across multiple sites
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with regulators and contractors
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel daily with overnight stays and occasional UK-wide travel
