Senior Transport Planner

Overview

As a Senior Transport Planner in Arup’s Cardiff Transport Planning team, you will shape transport strategies for major development and infrastructure projects across Wales and beyond. You will lead multidisciplinary workstreams, advise clients and authorities, and help deliver sustainable transport outcomes from concept to delivery. The role blends project leadership with technical appraisal, policy alignment and stakeholder collaboration. Responsibilities

• Manage transport planning projects and coordinate transport elements of multidisciplinary workstreams
• Develop transport strategies, assessments, business cases and appraisals for development and infrastructure projects
• Lead or support public transport, bus planning and active travel studies and infrastructure projects
• Build trusted relationships with clients, local authorities and key stakeholders
• Manage project programmes, quality, and commercial performance, including fee proposals and negotiations
• Contribute to business development, bid submissions and work-winning activities
• Support and mentor junior colleagues to develop technical capability across the team

Key requirements

• Proven experience delivering transport planning projects across development, infrastructure, public transport and active travel programmes
• Strong knowledge of transport planning guidance and appraisal frameworks (TAG and/or WelTAG)
• Experience developing and negotiating transport strategies with local authorities and other stakeholders
• A degree in a relevant discipline and either Chartered status or commitment to professional accreditation
