Overview

In this role you will lead psychiatric care within the Birkenhead Community Mental Health Team, working with a broad team to develop and deliver services across the Trust. You will supervise junior medical staff, contribute to service planning, and participate in annual appraisals and on-call duties. You’ll maintain professional registrations and engage in ongoing clinical governance and CPD. This is a chance to drive service development within an established, values-driven NHS team.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and appraise junior medical staff and provide formal supervision per policy
  • Perform administrative duties related to patient care and ensure timely clinical documentation
  • Record and report clinical activity to Information Department
  • Contribute to locality and wider mental health service planning and business planning
  • Participate in annual consultant appraisals
  • Engage in the Trust’s academic CPD programme and professional development
  • Maintain GMC registration, S12(2) approval, and professional conduct
  • Participate in job plan reviews with clinical managers and adapt to service changes
  • Collaborate with local managers and colleagues to ensure efficient service delivery

Key requirements

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • GMC registration with licence to practise; on Specialist Register or within six months
  • MRCPsych and/or other relevant clinical qualifications (desirable)
  • Approved clinician status or ability to achieve within 3 months
  • Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months
  • Excellent knowledge of psychiatry and bio-psycho-social approach
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) in English
  • Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Experience relevant to NHS or comparable service (desirable)
