Overview
As an Associate Electrical Engineer in our Manchester Building Services team, you will lead the electrical design and delivery of diverse building services projects across sectors. You’ll blend technical leadership with client engagement to ensure successful project outcomes and team growth. You’ll work across disciplines, guide junior engineers, and help develop client relationships, while aligning with UK standards and regulations. This role offers impact through shaping projects, mentoring colleagues, and driving business expansion in Manchester.
Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical design and delivery from concept to handover
- Ensure technical quality of electrical packages (LV distribution, lighting, small power, fire alarm, earthing, lightning protection)
- Produce/review calculations, drawings, specs, and reports
- Coordinate with mechanical, structural, architectural teams
- Lead client and design team meetings with clear technical guidance
- Build strong client and stakeholder relationships
- Manage programmes, resources and technical deliverables
- Review others’ work and provide technical mentorship
- Support fee proposals, tenders, and bids
- Identify opportunities to develop existing client relationships and win new work
- Contribute to growth of the Manchester Building Services team
- Collaborate with Waterman’s multidisciplinary teams
- Ensure compliance with British Standards, CIBSE, Building Regulations and applicable legislation
Key requirements
- Significant experience in Building Services/MEP consultancy
- Strong experience designing electrical systems for buildings
- Experience across sectors such as commercial, residential, education, leisure, healthcare
- Solid knowledge of LV distribution, lighting, small power and related systems
- Experience taking responsibility for projects and delivering technically
- Strong client-facing and communication skills
- Experience working in multidisciplinary project teams
- Experience mentoring junior engineers
- Understanding of project budgets, programmes, resources and commercial considerations
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership (advantageous)
