Overview

As a Principal Electrical Engineer in our Building Services team, you will lead the electrical design and delivery of diverse building projects. You’ll collaborate with clients, architects, and other disciplines to create high-quality, sustainable solutions while mentoring engineers and supporting the Manchester office’s growth. You shape technical direction, ensure compliance with standards, and drive projects from concept to completion. This role offers responsibility, influence, and opportunities to advance a growing team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design and delivery of projects from concept to completion
  • Develop designs and specifications for multiple building types and sectors
  • Design LV distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, small power, containment, fire alarm, earthing and lightning protection
  • Produce and review calculations, drawings, reports
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance within the team
  • Coordinate electrical designs with multidisciplinary teams
  • Attend client and design team meetings, offering clear technical advice
  • Build strong client and stakeholder relationships
  • Manage technical delivery, programme and resources across projects
  • Review colleagues’ work for technical quality
  • Assist with fee proposals, tenders, and bids
  • Identify opportunities to grow existing client relationships in Manchester
  • Mentor junior engineers and support their development
  • Ensure compliance with British Standards, CIBSE guidance, Building Regulations and related legislation

Key requirements

  • Significant experience in Building Services/MEP consultancy
  • Strong experience designing electrical systems for buildings
  • Experience across sectors including commercial, residential, education, leisure, healthcare or similar
  • Strong technical knowledge across LV distribution, lighting, small power and related systems
  • Experience leading projects and delivering technically
  • Excellent client-facing and communication skills
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary projects
  • Experience reviewing and mentoring engineers
  • Understanding of project budgets, programmes and resource management
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership (advantageous)
