Job summary

Are you passionate about improving patient care through digital innovation? We are seeking a motivated Digital Clinical Specialist to support the development, implementation and optimisation of digital systems that enhance clinical workflows, patient outcomes and staff experience.

Working with clinicians, operational teams, suppliers and digital colleagues, you will provide expert clinical input throughout the design, testing, implementation and adoption of digital solutions. You will engage with stakeholders to understand requirements, support service transformation and promote best practice in electronic documentation and record keeping.

We are looking for a registered Midwife with excellent communication, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills. Experience of electronic patient records, digital transformation, clinical informatics or change management would be advantageous.

Main duties of the job

This pivotal role supports delivery of the organisation’s Digital Strategy, transforming digital concepts into clinically led solutions that enhance user experience and improve outcomes for women, babies and families. At a time of significant change across Bristol’s NHS organisations and the move towards a single acute hospital trust, the post offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of digital maternity services.

The post holder will provide specialist clinical informatics expertise for maternity services, acting as the key link between maternity clinicians, Digital Services, information teams and system suppliers. They will support the design, implementation, optimisation and adoption of digital solutions including the Maternity EPR, wider Electronic Patient Record (EPR) systems and associated technologies.

Working closely with clinicians, patients and stakeholders, they will ensure digital systems are safe, effective and user focused, driving clinical engagement and adoption. The role includes improving maternity data quality, supporting compliance with the Maternity Services Data Set (MSDS), embedding sustainable digital practices and promoting a digitally skilled workforce. The post holder will champion innovation, continuous improvement and the effective use of technology to enhance care quality and clinical outcomes across maternity services.

Person Specification

Training, Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Understanding of clinical systems and their use within an acute hospital environment
  • Knowledge of change process methodologies
  • Experience of the development and delivery of clinical education and training
  • Understanding of Health Policy and how IT can be used to improve operational and clinical processes for clinical colleagues including doctors, nursing, midwifery and AHPs
  • Experience of delivering practice changes or quality improvement projects
  • Experienced midwife with experience of leading teams or people
  • Experience of working collaboratively with multi-professional teams and service users
  • Experience of creating and delivering training plans and materials
  • Detailed understanding of professional and clinical standards and policies
  • Highly computer literate
  • Professional Registration (NMC)
  • Evidence of commitment to continuous learning and application in practice
  • Degree level qualification

Desirable

  • Experience of patient safety and experience of clinical risk management including an awareness of patient safety risks and the pitfalls of implementing clinical IT systems
  • Post Registration qualification / Post Graduate diploma and training
  • Accredited Clinical Safety Officer or willing to work towards attaining this qualification
