Overview
In this role you will lead planning strategy across a portfolio of residential-led strategic sites for a growing property business. You will work closely with the senior leadership, balancing promotion, due diligence and development potential with commercial aims. The role is hands-on and autonomous, involving collaboration with local authorities, consultants and the wider team to shape opportunities and mitigate risks. This is a chance to influence the strategic land portfolio and play a pivotal part in expansion and future leadership of the planning function.
Responsibilities
- Lead planning strategy and promotion for strategic residential sites
- Monitor Local Plans and identify opportunities and risks across the portfolio
- Provide planning advice and due diligence on potential acquisitions
- Prepare Local Plan representations, planning statements and submissions
- Manage planning applications and appeals through to determination
- Appoint and manage external planning, technical and specialist consultants
- Represent projects through public consultation, planning committees and stakeholder engagement
- Build relationships with local authorities, landowners, communities and other stakeholders
- Collaborate with the wider team to understand planning risk, development potential and commercial strategy
- Remain hands-on with projects rather than only managing advisers
Key requirements
- Significant strategic land and residential planning experience
- Understanding of Local Plan and strategic site promotion processes
- Experience preparing representations, statements and planning submissions
- Experience across applications, appeals and public consultation
- Experience managing multidisciplinary consultant teams
- Understanding of the relationship between planning strategy, land and commercial value
- MRTPI qualification or equivalent experience
