Financial Reporting and Technical Accountant

Overview

In this senior, individual contributor role, you will own the most complex technical accounting areas across Marshmallow’s Group, driving policy, judgments and audit readiness. You’ll act as the go-to expert for UK insurance broker, claims handling, car finance SPV structures and the Group holding company, supporting external auditors and senior stakeholders. You’ll aim to close legacy gaps, build scalable controls, and empower the team with clear, well-documented accounting positions. This role sits at the core of the Group’s growth and financial integrity.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain Group accounting policies across entities in scope, aligned with FRS 102 and regulatory requirements
• Lead FRS 102 (2026 amendments) impact assessment and transition (revenue recognition and ECL)
• Be the authoritative internal voice on complex areas (share-based payments, capex and intangibles, lease accounting, bad debt provisioning, PPOs, HP loan recognition, ECL, SPV accounting)
• Own technical accounting for car finance business and SPV structure
• Own technical accounting for UK insurance broking and claims handling businesses
• Resolve legacy technical items and audit findings with root-cause solutions
• Lead revenue recognition transformation workstream and policy documentation
• Oversee revenue data workstream to ensure policy-practice alignment and remediation as needed
• Collaborate with Engineering, Data and FP&A to ground revenue reporting in solid technical foundations
• Review Gibraltar-based insurance accounting with Group perspective and challenge as needed
• Provide group-wide insurance accounting insights for consolidation and auditor discussions
• Prepare complex balance sheet reconciliations and accounting entries for external audit
• Serve as primary Finance contact for external auditors on technical judgments with clear documentation
• Proactively identify and close accounting quality gaps for sustainable fixes
• Coach and develop junior colleagues on technical accounting topics
• Collaborate with FP&A, Actuarial, Legal and new business teams to embed requirements early in design
• Support Group Financial Controller with technical accounting analyses for senior stakeholders

Key requirements

• ACA, ACCA or equivalent fully qualified
• Strong insurance accounting knowledge (earned premium, technical provisions, reinsurance)
• Advanced command of FRS 102 and/or IFRS; ability to document judgments for audit
• Experience with car finance or consumer credit accounting (HP income, IFRS 9/ECL); SPV/securitisation knowledge
• Proven ability to coach others and raise team capability
• Big 4 background a plus, especially in insurance or financial services
• Experience in multi-entity group with UK GAAP/FRS 102 consolidation
• Exposure to FCA/insurance-regulated environments preferred
