Overview

In this Development Manager role, you lead two key engineering groups (SAE and EI Dev) to build secure, scalable corporate applications and automated detection and response systems. You set long-term technical strategy, drive cross-team delivery, and modernise infrastructure across on-prem and AWS. You will shape secure design practices, CI/CD, and Kubernetes-enabled platforms while partnering with security, cloud, and infrastructure teams to align with corporate goals. This high-impact role combines leadership, architecture, and hands-on delivery in a complex enterprise environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and technical leadership across SAE and EI Dev, setting direction for corporate apps, CI/CD, Kubernetes and automation
  • Own team structure, growth planning, hiring and performance development
  • Foster a culture of secure design, high standards and continuous improvement
  • Oversee design and delivery of secure, scalable corporate-domain applications
  • Define CI/CD patterns, deployment approaches and modernisation across on-prem and AWS
  • Drive legacy migration, architectural governance and technical debt reduction
  • Lead automated detection and response capabilities within SAE with Elastic Security, Azure Defender XDR and AWS Security Hub
  • Collaborate with wider EI to deliver secure corporate systems via infrastructure, networking, identity and cloud teams
  • Establish delivery processes, sprint cadences and reporting across multiple teams
  • Partner with CSIRT, Corporate Engineering, Infrastructure and Cloud on multi-team initiatives
  • Manage vendors and represent EI Dev and SAE in cross-functional forums
  • Ensure delivery of secure, well-documented systems integrated into G-Research’s tech estate

Key requirements

  • Proven experience delivering production-grade applications and platforms
  • Strong understanding of secure engineering, modern architectures and cloud-native design
  • Hands-on Kubernetes deployment, CI/CD pipelines and GitOps in on-prem and AWS
  • Experience modernising legacy systems and leading refactoring
  • Familiarity with Python, Typescript or other modern languages
  • Leadership experience building engineering culture and teams
  • Ability to balance long-term architecture with near-term delivery
  • Strong communication to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders
