Principal Electrical Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead electrical design across water and wastewater projects from concept to commissioning, shaping electrical functions to support asset efficiency and reliability. You will work closely with commercial, operations and construction teams to develop practical, standards-compliant solutions that meet safety and quality requirements. You will review documents, perform technical checks, and drive standard designs and digital tools to improve delivery. You’ll engage with clients and mentor engineers, delivering high-impact solutions that benefit communities and the environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, planning and execution of electrical engineering on projects
• Provide design support and ensure schemes are fit for purpose and compliant with standards
• Collaborate with commercial, operational and construction teams to develop safe, efficient solutions
• Engage with clients to support their aims using a one-team approach
• Manage interfaces between process design and other disciplines; produce documentation
• Act as technical checker and perform cross-team reviews
• Identify opportunities to improve delivery through standard designs, sustainable solutions, and digital tools
• Conduct site reviews to ensure buildability and integration with existing systems
• Support the development and mentoring of the mechanical engineering team

Key requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Chartership (CEng) with a relevant Engineering Institution
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
• Experience delivering high-quality outputs per design, quality and safety standards
• Effective communication with team members and stakeholders
• Willingness to travel to sites across the operational region
• Water/wastewater experience
