Overview
Senior Quantity Surveyor for a civil engineering contractor, Edinburgh/Glasgow/Falkirk region, overseeing commercial management on projects up to 10m. You will partner with regional leadership to monitor performance, manage subcontracts, and drive financial success across multiple live schemes. The role blends hands-on contract administration, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring timely cost reporting and final accounts. You will work in a collaborative, professional environment focused on delivering high-quality construction outputs.
Responsibilities
- Co-operate with Regional Director and Regional Quantity Surveyor and implement directives
- Ensure timely submission of data to monitor contract performance monthly/quarterly
- Liaise with contracts management on day-to-day commercial administration and keep the Commercial Manager informed
- Implement Group commercial procedures within delegated authority
- Prepare or approve sub-contracts according to Group procedures
- Supervise trainee and junior quantity surveyors and support their development
- Ensure notices and submissions are made to protect the Group’s trading position
- Verify payment applications, admeasurements, and detailed claims for timely submission
- Assist in sub-contractor performance administration to ensure timely completion of liabilities
- Manage meetings and be aware of business continuity processes
Key requirements
- Professional membership of a recognised institute (e.g. RICS) is desirable
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Extensive experience on live projects and final accounts
- Experience resolving disputes and procuring major works sub-contracts
- Experience in mentoring and developing staff
- Strong understanding of construction industry contracts, measurement and valuation
- Ability to read drawings and specifications and understand construction processes
- Negotiation skills with clients and sub-contractors
- Experience producing monthly cost/value reports and forecasts (desirable)
