Overview

In this role you contribute to building performance and energy modelling projects across the UK, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver low-carbon design solutions. You will engage with senior leadership to shape early-stage decisions and support a national capability with occasional travel to Plymouth. You’ll work on diverse sectors and mature digital modelling workflows, aiming to meet regulatory and green-building standards. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone growing expertise in building physics and sustainable design.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to building physics workstreams—thermal, energy, daylight, overheating, natural ventilation, and comfort analysis.
  • Develop, review, and optimise energy strategies, TM54 assessments, and low-carbon design solutions.
  • Assess façade performance, passive design, solar control, and fabric optimisation.
  • Ensure compliance with UK regulations (Part L, TM52/TM59, EPC) and contribute to BREEAM/WELL/LEED credits.
  • Produce technical reports and present findings to internal teams and clients.
  • Collaborate with MEP, architecture, sustainability, and digital engineering teams to integrate building physics into design.
  • Support early-stage design decisions on massing, orientation, glazing, shading, and natural ventilation feasibility.
  • Promote adoption of digital modelling workflows and best practices across projects.
  • Mentor and share knowledge with junior engineers; participate in internal learning initiatives.

Key requirements

  • Experience in building physics, energy modelling, or building performance analysis in a consultancy.
  • Proficiency with IES-VE (or equivalent) including simulation, calibration, and QA.
