Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Overview

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you design, deliver and sustain secure, reliable infrastructure across AJ Bell’s technology estate. You balance hands-on delivery with technical leadership to guide engineers and ensure changes meet standards, governance and security expectations. You’ll work to improve resilience, scalability and maintainability while enabling regulatory compliance, including Consumer Duty. This role blends technical depth with collaboration across the Technology Services team to manage risk and drive maintainable infrastructure solutions. Responsibilities

• Design, deliver and support production infrastructure services
• Own technical design and delivery for medium-sized infrastructure changes or projects
• Guide and mentor Infrastructure Engineers
• Ensure work aligns with standards, controls and security expectations
• Coordinate dependencies across systems and workstreams
• Support incident resolution and post-incident reviews
• Produce technical documentation, implementation plans and handover materials
• Operate within change control and service management processes
• Communicate technical risks and trade-offs to stakeholders
• Help ensure security, resilience, monitoring and maintainability of services
• Collaborate with suppliers and third-party support as needed

Key requirements

• Strong experience as an Infrastructure Engineer in financial services or critical environments
• Ability to own design and delivery for medium-sized infrastructure initiatives
• Deep understanding of dependencies across infrastructure technologies, applications, networks, identity and security
• Troubleshoot complex issues and support incident response
• Experience producing technical docs, plans and standards
• Familiarity with change control, governance and service management
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain risks and trade-offs
• Ability to coach and support junior engineers
• Capacity to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
• Understanding of security, resilience, monitoring and capacity planning
• Experience working with suppliers/third parties
