Overview

In this role you design and deliver user-centred digital public services within a multidisciplinary team. You’ll balance business needs with user needs, guiding interactions end-to-end across channels while applying accessible, inclusive design principles. You’ll run workshops, prototype rapidly, and communicate design decisions with clear evidence to stakeholders. The role supports service transformation and aligns with government standards, offering variety across public sector and client engagements. This is a flexible London/remote position with opportunities to grow your design practice and leadership within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Design intuitive, accessible digital services aligned with user needs and business goals
  • Create end-to-end service interactions across channels
  • Engage in user research and use evidence to inform design decisions
  • Prototype and test designs using paper, digital, and code-based approaches (GOV.UK Prototype Kit)
  • Produce interaction design artefacts (sketches, user flows, wireframes, journey maps)
  • Facilitate workshops, co-design, and user testing to explore problems and validate solutions
  • Collaborate in agile, multidisciplinary teams with developers, researchers, product managers, and stakeholders
  • Communicate design decisions clearly with a strong evidence base to influence stakeholders
  • Maintain high usability, accessibility, and inclusivity in line with WCAG and GOV.UK guidelines
  • Contribute to design standards, design systems, and consistency across services
  • Support service transformation by improving efficiency, speed, and usability of public services
  • Demonstrate experience working to the Government Service Standard

Key requirements

  • Designs simple, intuitive digital services that meet user needs and business objectives
  • End-to-end service view with cross-channel interaction design
  • Participation in user research using qualitative and quantitative data
  • Rapid prototyping and testing with diverse methods
  • Production of artefacts: sketches, flows, scenarios, wireframes, journey maps, prototypes
  • Facilitation of workshops and user testing in collaborative environments
  • Strong collaboration within agile, multidisciplinary teams
  • Clear communication of decisions with evidence
  • Commitment to usability, accessibility, and inclusive design per WCAG and GOV.UK
  • Contributions to design standards and design systems
  • Experience supporting government service transformation and adherence to Government Service Standard
