Overview

In this role you enable the translation of design intent into a robust production system for Zephyr high-altitude UAVs, partnering across departments to meet safety, quality, cost, and schedule targets. You will help shape the Zephyr production process, drive continuous improvement, and support a scalable manufacturing capability in the Stratospace program. The position offers hands-on system engineering within a regulated aerospace context and contributes to delivering performance at altitude. This is a chance to influence manufacturing at the frontier of stratospheric aerospace.

Responsibilities

  • Design and qualification of a HAPS production system using manufacturing system engineering tools and processes (cellular production, lean flow, line balancing, capital items, factory layout & simulation)
  • Collaborate with Facilities Management to deliver shop floor requirements
  • Create/change MRP shop floor routings, job cards, shop floor SOIs, quality care cards
  • Provide technical dossiers and support to procurement, monitor supply chain, and Make v Buy decisions
  • Provide technical problem solving and support to production and supply chain
  • Apply APQP as appropriate
  • Conduct DFM/DTC studies and input to design teams
  • Collaborate with GSE and Jig & Tools teams for design, manufacture, calibration & maintenance
  • Derive and enable production KPIs with operations
  • Drive continuous improvement of the production system and health & safety targets
  • Support Right First Time quality culture with business systems and feedback loops

Key requirements

  • Experience in highly regulated industries
  • Experience in avionics, assembly, integration and test, or composite structure assembly
  • Experience creating assembly process instructions
  • Experience creating ERP routings
  • Experience using RCCA methodologies (Fishbone, 5 Whys, 8D)
