Overview
In this Senior Mechanical Engineer role, you will shape water infrastructure across the UK, joining a multi-disciplinary Water team to deliver multi-billion-pound capital programmes. You’ll work on schemes from small rural sites to large wastewater and water facilities, collaborating with civil, electrical, and process engineers. You’ll influence design, technical quality, and site delivery from feasibility through to construction, helping communities and environments flourish. Responsibilities
- Produce feasibility studies, outline and detailed designs, and construction support
- Create design drawings, select mechanical plant, and prepare specifications
- Collaborate with water discipline teams across the country
- Contribute to bids and interface with clients to support planning and design
- Deliver designs within budget and programme, and assist with project budgets and scheduling
- Design mechanical installations (e.g., pumping stations, screens, grit removal, penstocks, valves, odour control, piping) and perform headloss calculations and pump selection
- Conduct site surveys and liaise with clients, contractors, and suppliers
- Prepare plant layouts, datasheets, valve schedules, equipment schedules, lifting strategies and P&IDs
Key requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Progress towards Chartered Engineer status (e.g., IMechE)
- Knowledge of pump station design, piping design, valve selection, and hydraulics
- Proven ability to deliver designs, reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations
