As a Senior/Associate Mechanical Engineer, you will deliver mechanical building services design from feasibility to construction, collaborating with electrical engineers and multidisciplinary teams. You will guide junior and senior colleagues, supervise design packages, and ensure compliant, coordinated outcomes on diverse schemes. Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day management of a design team and support career development
- Design mechanical systems (heating, ventilation, cooling, domestic water) and develop specifications for specialist packages like BMS
- Prepare and check calculations, drawings and specifications across concept to technical design
- Coordinate mechanical services with other disciplines (architectural, structural, electrical, sustainability)
- Collaborate with project leads, engineers, surveyors, QS and PMs to ensure technical quality and compliance
- Develop design packages for tender/construction and respond to contractor queries
- Contribute to internal technical reviews and knowledge sharing
- Utilise tools (IES, AutoCAD, Revit) to generate coordinated outputs
- Carry out building surveys to assess existing mechanical installations and provide commentary
- Attend site for construction monitoring and undertake clerk of works/asset surveys across the North
Key requirements
- Track record delivering mechanical designs within a consultancy or design‑and‑build environment
- Strong technical skills with design tools (Revit, AutoCAD, IES) and familiarity with UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guides and industry standards
- Organised, detail‑oriented with ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Collaborative approach with a willingness to learn from peers
- Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering
- Ideally working towards professional registration (CIBSE or IMechE)
- Experience with project design responsibility from feasibility to construction
