Overview

You join a multidisciplinary fire safety consultancy to lead and grow the Defence-focused fire engineering team. You will drive large, complex Defence projects, ensuring regulatory compliance, quality, and on-time delivery while developing staff and expanding client relationships. This role combines technical input with people leadership in a globally trusted infrastructure firm. You will shape project strategies and mentor engineers as you contribute to a broader fire engineering business plan.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Defence workload management and project delivery; oversee large Defence projects ensuring regulatory compliance and client satisfaction
  • Collaborate with multi-discipline teams and national leadership to deliver projects on time, within budget, to high quality
  • Lead performance and review processes; set SMART goals; conduct staff appraisals and support professional development
  • Provide specialised technical input to studies and designs across the portfolio; mentor staff toward Chartership
  • Provide budget and schedule estimates for fire engineering on large projects; lead mid-to-large Defence project delivery; act as Approved Lead Verifier and Approved Project Manager
  • Foster strong client relationships and contribute to business growth; ensure quality work delivered within agreed time and budget
  • Promote health and safety policies; develop marketing strategies; participate in the Fire Team Business Plan and KPIs

Key requirements

  • Extensive experience in a large multi-disciplinary environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UK standards and Defence standards (ADB, BS 9991/9999/9992, HTM 05-02, BB100; JSP 80; DIFS)
  • Proficiency with fire engineering tools (FDS, SFE, evacuation modelling software)
  • Membership in professional institutions (MIFireE) or NFPA CFPE certifications
  • BEng/MEng or MSc in fire science or fire engineering
  • Good level of security clearance or ability to obtain one
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) with IFE or related credentials (preferred)
  • International experience with standards (IBC, SFPE, NFPA) and PhD (preferred)
