Overview
As a Site Safety Lead at QinetiQ, you partner with site leadership to embed health, safety and environmental excellence. You’ll drive improvements to safety culture, performance and management across the site, aligning with the safety management system and legislative requirements. You will engage stakeholders, deliver training and coaching, and champion proactive safety changes in a complex operations context. This role offers impact through hands-on safety leadership at the BUTEC site and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities
- Partner with Head of Site and Site Compliance Lead to provide professional HSE advice to operations
- Lead implementation of HSE legislation, policy, strategy and objectives with high professional standards
- Engage internal and external safety contacts/stakeholders through site visits and meetings
- Drive safety improvements via training, mentoring, coaching and facilitation
- Support HSE competence assessments to ensure delivery teams meet accountabilities
- Review and close incident reports and support investigations for environmental incidents as appropriate
Key requirements
- Safety Management Systems expertise with ISO 45001 knowledge
- Experience in delivery, operations and engineering environments
- Proven track record of leading change and improving safety in complex matrix organisations
- Strong analytical, engagement, coaching and influencing skills across all levels
- Proactive, solution-oriented with ability to drive change
- Excellent written and oral communication; able to convey complex issues clearly
- Level 3 Diploma in Health and Safety or equivalent
- Experience as HSE Practitioner or in a delivery role with key HSE responsibilities
- Chartered or working towards chartered status
- Recognised training in accident investigation and root cause analysis
