Overview
As a Senior Project Controls Engineer, you will support Edinburgh-based infrastructure projects across defence, rail, aviation, highways, water, marine/ports and utilities. You’ll collaborate with cost and planning engineers to set baselines, monitor progress, and produce control reports that drive client recommendations. You’ll act as a key contact for project control insights, shaping performance analyses and governance. Responsibilities
- Develop work breakdown structures and robust performance baselines with cost and planning engineers
- Establish progress and cost monitoring methods and produce project control reports
- Provide performance analysis and recommendations for clients
- Chair or participate in planning workshops and risk reviews
- Ensure quality schedules via assurance reviews and self-checking of work
- Manage baseline monitoring, progress data collection, and variance reporting
- Escalate issues and drive governance for effective communication and coordination
- Drive a positive can-do culture and hold work package owners to account
Key requirements
- Experience in project controls within infrastructure sectors (defence, rail, aviation, highways, water, marine/ports and utilities)
- At least one of: Programme Controls Management, Earned Value (EVM), Change & Risk Management, Planning, PMO
- Knowledge of best-practice planning principles and how client life cycles affect planning
- Technical competence in schedule construction, WBS, calendars, duration estimation, schedule logic, critical path, resource and cost allocation
- Working knowledge of Primavera, Project Online, Microsoft Project, Asta Powerproject
- Experience with Primavera Schedlog, Acumen Fuse, DCMA 14 Point Checklist for quality assurance
- Ability to monitor schedules, manage baselines, gather progress data, measure performance, and report variances
- Experience in risk reviews, recovery/scenario planning and recommendations
