Senior Civil Engineer

Overview

In this Senior Civil Engineer role, you will lead multidisciplinary civil projects in Arup’s Southampton team, guiding delivery from inception to completion. You’ll work with cross-functional engineers, contribute to technical excellence, and develop staff while aligning with Arup’s growth plans for the South Coast. The position emphasizes collaboration, client relationship management, and culture of inclusion. You will shape infrastructure solutions that support sustainable outcomes and Arup’s mission to better the world.

Responsibilities

• Manage multidisciplinary civil projects: plan resources, monitor performance
• Lead preparation and review of civil deliverables: drawings, reports, specifications, presentations
• Line manage engineers and technicians: appraisals and development
• Promote culture of equity, inclusion and technical excellence
• Contribute to growth: business development, work winning, client relationships
• Collaborate with Buildings team in Southampton on cross-team delivery
• Support training and development initiatives within the wider team

Key requirements

• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status or close to achieving such status
• Degree in Civil Engineering or similar
• Strong technical background in earthworks, roads and streets, public realm, utilities, flood risk and drainage
• Ability to manage complex workloads and multiple concurrent projects
• Proven track record of successful project delivery in UK and/or international contexts
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with clients and colleagues
• Ability to motivate and lead others in an inclusive manner
• Focus on design excellence and continuous quality improvement
