Senior Civil Engineer

Overview

You will provide technical leadership and deliver civil designs for power, transmission, and related infrastructure. You’ll lead multidisciplinary design efforts and coordinate with electrical, structural, and geotechnical teams across North America. The role focuses on delivering constructible, reliable solutions within a growing clean energy portfolio. You’ll mentor staff, support proposals, and help advance grid modernization and renewables integration. This position offers cross-office collaboration and opportunities to influence large-scale energy projects.

Responsibilities

• Follow HSSE policies and ensure safety codes are addressed in design
• Act as Engineer of Record on complex projects
• Lead substation site civil design including grading, drainage, and perimeter security
• Layout duct banks, trenches, site access, and resolve conflicts with foundations and utilities
• Lead utility conflict assessments and coordinate with municipalities and utility owners
• Lead civil design for underground electrical distribution infrastructure
• Develop scopes of work and manage project scope, budget, schedule, and cost estimates
• Identify technical risks and support change management
• Guide design teams in producing design packages, calculations, specs, and criteria
• Coordinate with related disciplines and manage QA/QC
• Provide post-design/construct- phase support and field feedback
• Build client relationships and support proposals and staffing
• Mentor staff and promote cross-office collaboration

Key requirements

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in a Canadian province/territory
• Strong knowledge of civil engineering systems, codes, standards
• Experience in substation and/or transmission line civil design
• Knowledge of utility design standards and owner documentation requirements
• Ability to lead blended, multi-office design teams and manage multiple projects to budget/schedule
• Proven QA/QC skills
• Proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD; MS Office and PDF tools (Bluebeam/Adobe Acrobat)
• Experience with ArcGIS, Global Mapper, ProjectWise, or Forma is an asset
• Excellent technical writing, organizational, and verbal communication
