Job Description:

Expert Construction welcome applications for this new position in Co Tyrone. Our Client is a dynamic civil engineering contractor based in Omagh, County Tyrone. They work across a broad range of sectors and are now looking for a Senior Estimator to join their commercial team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the completion of tender submissions on a variety of Civil and Construction projects.

Main duties

Working closely with Estimating and Commercial Managers, you will be responsible for: –

  • Lead the preparation of comprehensive tender submissions and cost estimates, ranging from first-principles estimation to detailed subcontractor package analysis.
  • Identify potential risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions to strengthen competitive bids.
  • Obtain, analyse, and negotiate quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Analyse project drawings, specifications, and site constraints to create construction methods and, at times, preliminary schedules.
  • Work with procurement, project managers, and commercial teams to prepare final tender submissions.
  • Assist with the production and timely submission of tender documents, programmes and technical information
  • Price civil engineering works (earthworks, drainage, ducting, paving) from first principles
  • Assist in preparing construction programmes and sequences
  • Identify and manage subcontract packages, including supplier engagement and tender analysis
  • Compile comprehensive net cost estimates including preliminary items
  • Present tenders at internal adjudication meetings and implement feedback
  • Ensure timely and compliant tender submissions aligned with client specifications
  • Follow up on submitted tenders and support commercial discussions
  • Provide clear project overviews, highlighting risks and opportunities
  • Review tender performance post-contract to support continuous improvement

Candidate requirements

  • Relevant Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience as a Civil Estimator or Quantity Surveyor in a contracting environment
  • Experience on Civil Engineering Projects desirable
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Experience with Autocad and QS take off packages

  • Experience with estimating software packages e.g. Conquest
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages; experience with Microsoft Project desirable but not essential
  • Valid Driving licence is essential
  • Essential to have the right to work in the UK.
