Overview
In this role you will lead Protection & Control design and oversight for UK power projects, from concept to energisation. You’ll work within the Energy team on diverse schemes across HV and distribution networks, contributing to innovation and standardisation efforts. You’ll collaborate with clients and suppliers to deliver safe, efficient protection solutions that support the UK energy transition. This is a growth-focused opportunity in a collaborative, risk-aware environment where your expertise shapes multi-utility projects.
Responsibilities
- Develop scoping documentation and Main Connections & Protection Diagrams
- Review Protection & Control designs produced by third parties
- Specify P&C equipment (relays, CTs, VTs)
- Produce detailed AC/DC schematics and designs
- Conduct protection grading studies and create relay files and settings
- Review Commissioning Plans and participate in Commissioning Panel meetings
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field
- Experience as a Protection & Control Design Engineer on Distribution Networks in the UK
- Knowledge of protection relays, relay panels, CT & VT sizing, and protection grading studies
- Ability to produce detailed AC/DC drawings and relay settings
- Familiarity with UK electrical practices and standards; understanding of CDM regulations
- Safety-focused with risk mitigation experience
- Ideally experience with National Grid processes
