Overview

In this Cost Engineer role, you will lead cost control across multiple projects within a major Energy & Natural Resources programme. You’ll build robust cost data, Baselines, and forecasts to support timely decisions for the client. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to align time, cost and risk, delivering on cost targets and quality standards. This position offers the opportunity to shape cost management in a high-impact, transformation-focused organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Tailor cost control approaches to client needs and align with best practices
  • Implement and maintain cost control systems to track budgets, commitments, expenditures and forecasts
  • Collaborate with the Integrated Project Team to create an accurate Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB)
  • Develop Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS) and align budgets with Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
  • Map cost estimates to WBS and set budgets against Work Packages and Control Accounts
  • Adhere to NEC or FIDIC contract processes for cost data management and reporting
  • Lead accruals production to reflect Actual Cost of Work Performed (ACWP)
  • Support change processes with cost information for change notes and forecasts
  • Update forecasts for Estimate To Complete (ETC) and cost capture requirements
  • Ensure PO structure aligns with work orders and CBS for cost performance clarity
  • Validate supply chain data to improve forecasting and reporting
  • Communicate cost control updates effectively to management on complex projects
  • Demonstrate leadership in cost control and develop team capabilities

Key requirements

  • Professional project controls experience specializing in Cost Engineering/Control
  • Understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM), progress reporting, forecasting and performance reporting
  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
  • BPSS level security clearance eligibility
  • Member of a professional body (e.g., APM, PMI)
  • Experience leading Cost Control Assurance activities
  • Knowledge of cost forecasting techniques and integration with other Project Controls (Scheduling, Risk, Change)
  • Ability to make risk-based decisions and lead by example
