Overview

As a Senior Transit Project Engineer, you will provide technical leadership on complex transit and rail programs across Western Canada, guiding projects from planning through construction. You’ll work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, efficient, and integrated transit infrastructure for public-sector clients. The role emphasizes technical mentorship, client engagement, and aligning engineering delivery with project objectives. Responsibilities

  • Provide senior technical leadership on transit and rail projects (LRT, BRT, stations, corridors, civil infrastructure)
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions
  • Oversee preparation, review, and approval of technical deliverables (drawings, reports, specs, cost estimates)
  • Support project management: scope definition, planning, schedules, budgets; manage technical inputs to change control
  • Interface with project managers, controls, and commercial teams to manage technical risk and interfaces
  • Act as senior technical point of contact with client agencies (City of Edmonton/Calgary, TransLink, Alberta Transportation)
  • Identify and manage technical risks and integration challenges (constructability, staging, third-party interfaces)
  • Support constructability reviews, value engineering, and design optimization
  • Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and internal HSSE practices
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster a collaborative, high-performing team
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and pursuit/business development activities

Key requirements

  • Demonstrated experience managing transportation or transit projects for public-sector agencies
  • Strong understanding of project management fundamentals (scope, schedule, budget, risk, quality)
  • Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships; established Alberta transit network is an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for client/stakeholder presentations
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary, multi-organization teams
  • Experience supporting business development and pursuit activities; technical inputs to proposals preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PEng) license in Alberta, or eligibility to obtain within six months of hire
  • Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in transportation or transit project delivery
