Project Engineer – Substations

Overview

In this role you will help deliver HV/EHV substation projects across North America as part of Stantec’s Western Canadian Power Delivery team. You collaborate with Project Managers and multi-disciplinary teams to manage scope, schedule, budget, and technical delivery, ensuring reliable and efficient substations. You will lead design coordination, QA/QC, and field support, accelerating energy infrastructure development. Responsibilities

• Assist Project Managers in defining scope, schedule, and cost; provide technical oversight
• Identify and manage project technical risks
• Act as technical lead coordinating internal teams, clients, and third-party stakeholders
• Lead and coordinate design activities, review vendor drawings, and maintain technical documentation
• Develop design plans, strategies, schedules, and resource plans for engineering phases
• Coordinate preparation of technical documents (specifications, drawings, reports)
• Support construction, fabrication, and commissioning with technical input and issue resolution
• Assist in proposals, project plans, and cost estimates
• Follow QA/QC procedures to deliver high-quality engineering services
• Conduct site visits to verify installations and prepare for detailed designs
• Potentially perform detailed engineering tasks (design, specifications, studies)

Key requirements

• 5+ years progressive engineering experience
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering
• Eligible for professional engineering registration (EGBC or equivalent)
• Experience leading multi-discipline design teams on large, complex projects
• Experience with project scope/schedule/cost management
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
• Willingness to travel occasionally
• Proficiency in MS Office and Bluebeam/Adobe Acrobat
