Engineering Manager, Switchboard

Overview

Lead the Switchboard team responsible for GitLab Dedicated’s Tenant management and customer-facing control panel. You will align with Product, Design, and PMs to drive end-to-end product delivery for a large-scale tenant fleet, while building a high-performing, remote team. You’ll improve quality, security, and performance as you enable self-service workflows for customers and operators. The role combines deep technical ownership with people leadership to advance our distributed systems at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead the fullstack Switchboard team and set direction for the Dedicated control panel, coordinating with the Product Manager
• Hire and develop a high-performing, fast-delivering team
• Partner with Technical Team Leads to unblock and steer the team
• Collaborate with Product and Design on UI direction and wireframes for external users
• Plan with the Product Manager: priorities, dependencies, and quarterly epic delivery
• Ensure fast, high-quality cross-functional execution across frontend, backend, UX, product, and technical writing
• Drive quality, security, and performance improvements
• Support enabling GitLab Dedicated customers to manage tenant environments while reducing manual operations

Key requirements

• Proven track record building and owning large-scale distributed services
• Experience operating services with four-nines (99.99%) SLOs
• Experience leveraging AI tooling to boost team productivity
• History of building and managing high-performing, accountable team cultures
• Comfort driving complex projects to completion without a dedicated TPM
• Experience leading distributed and remote teams
