Overview
As a Mechanical Design Engineer in the Building Services team, you lead the design, specification and delivery of mechanical services across multiple commissions from feasibility to construction. You’ll act as Project Lead, gaining strong client exposure and mentoring junior engineers while ensuring technical excellence. The role sits at the intersection of design quality, schedule, and compliance with standards and regulations. You’ll work in a collaborative environment that values delivery, innovation, and professional growth. You will shape schemes across RIBA stages and contribute to a robust project pipeline.
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design and delivery across building services projects
- Manage multiple projects concurrently to meet programme, quality, and commercial targets
- Produce feasibility studies, technical appraisals, and sustainability assessments
- Ensure compliance with British Standards, CIBSE guidance, and relevant legislation
- Prepare cost estimates, resource planning, and fee proposals
- Attend and represent the business at client, design team, and site meetings
- Support and mentor graduate and intermediate engineers
- Assist senior leadership with reporting, invoicing, and project tracking
Key requirements
- Proven experience in building services mechanical engineering (consultancy and/or installation)
- Strong project leadership and client-facing experience
- Ability to manage workload across multiple live projects and deadlines
- Solid understanding of industry regulations and utility services
- Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
- Experience with AutoCAD and IES (Revit, BIM, DesignBuilder, Cymap advantageous)
- Professionally registered or working towards chartership (CIBSE, IMechE, IET, etc.)
