Overview

In this role you will lead the indirect procurement function for a well-established food manufacturing business, driving cost efficiency and improving supplier performance. You will shape procurement strategy, manage supplier relationships, and ensure policy compliance while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. Working with senior stakeholders, you’ll align procurement with business objectives and mitigate supply risks. This is a hands-on, impact-focused position with room to advance efficiency and sustainability across the organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage indirect procurement across categories (packaging, utilities, transport, facilities, IT, equipment, business services).
  • Analyse spend data to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve procurement efficiency.
  • Build and manage supplier partnerships, negotiate contracts, monitor supplier performance.
  • Develop and maintain purchasing policies ensuring compliance with governance.
  • Lead commercial negotiations for competitive pricing and service agreements.
  • Identify procurement risks and implement mitigation plans for continuity of supply.
  • Standardise and improve procurement processes across the business.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Operations and other departments to align procurement with objectives.
  • Monitor market trends and supplier innovations to drive value and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure procurement activities meet legal, regulatory and sustainability requirements.
  • Support wider business compliance activities, including property and energy obligations.

Key requirements

  • Proven procurement experience in food manufacturing, FMCG, agriculture, or similar production environment.
  • Strong commercial awareness with a track record of delivering cost savings and negotiating supplier agreements.
  • Experience managing multiple indirect spend categories and improving procurement processes.
  • Confident analysing spend data and using insights to influence decisions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • CIPS qualification or working towards it would be advantageous.
  • Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Business or related discipline is desirable.
