Overview
In this role you will drive and support automated platforms in the Lab of the Future, enabling data-rich experiments and seamless workflows. You collaborate with chemists, engineers, data scientists and IT to deploy robust automation, optimise performance and ensure quality compliance. You will empower scientists through training and hands-on support while advancing lab governance and digital maturity. Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and integrate automated platforms for synthetic and analytical chemistry to streamline workflows and data capture
- Program, operate and troubleshoot laboratory robotics and coordinate with vendors and internal teams
- Lead or support technology evaluation, platform upgrades, and new automation initiatives to advance digital maturity
- Train and empower laboratory scientists on use and maintenance of automation systems
- Ensure compliance with laboratory and IT quality standards, including software validation, change management, and safety
- Maintain safe lab operations and prepare required safety documentation
- Advance lab governance through inventory tracking, lab mapping and QR-enabled service requests
- Conduct practical experimental work on automated platforms and contribute data for development activities
- Provide hands-on support for MettlerToledo fleet maintenance
Key requirements
- Degree in chemistry, chemical robotics or mechanical engineering or related technical field with hands-on automation experience
- Proficiency in programming and scripting for automation platforms, robotics, and laboratory informatics
- Experience with CAD and prototyping new tools and equipment
- Operational experience with laboratory automation systems, including design, troubleshooting and optimization of robotic platforms
- Proven record of innovation (papers, patents, or conference presentations)
- Ability to develop and analyse multiple solutions to problems
- Excellent communication across scientific disciplines and cultures
- Critical thinking and flexible problem solving
- Ability to participate in and potentially lead improvement projects
