Overview

In this fixed-term role, you will maintain and enhance site automation technologies, bridging hands-on work with project delivery. You will support operations, engineering, and maintenance while ensuring systems comply with internal and regulatory standards as the site evolves. You’ll tackle design, programming and lifecycle management of control systems to minimize downtime and sustain production continuity. This position offers the chance to influence site automation strategy and introduce new technologies in a highly regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot automation systems to ensure reliability and minimize downtime, with proper documentation
  • Deliver design, programming and implementation of control systems for engineering and maintenance projects
  • Lead or contribute to automation projects and continuous improvement initiatives; coordinate stakeholders and deliverables
  • Ensure regulatory and internal standard compliance, support audits, and implement CAPAs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, maintenance, engineering, validation, IT) and external vendors
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies; build internal expertise and provide training
  • Support lifecycle management of automation systems (design, implementation, upgrades, documentation)
  • Contribute to long-term site automation strategy and roadmap

Key requirements

  • Hands-on experience with PLCs, HMI/SCADA, building automation and control systems
  • Strong PLC programming knowledge (ladder, function block, structured text)
  • Understanding of low voltage control systems and industrial devices/interfaces (sensors, I/O, fieldbus, networking)
  • Experience across full system lifecycle (design, implementation, troubleshooting, upgrades, documentation)
  • Familiarity with HMI/SCADA platforms and building automation systems
  • Experience in a pharmaceutical or highly regulated environment
  • Knowledge of GAMP5 methodology
  • Understanding of project delivery and prioritization in fast-paced settings
  • Awareness of OT cybersecurity principles
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Control Systems or a related field
  • DBS check required
