Overview
As an Automation Engineer, you will own site PLC platforms (primarily Allen Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix) and support other PLCs, robotics, and vision systems to drive reliability. You’ll lead structured root cause analysis, implement long-term fixes, and enforce PLC standards with robust governance. You will integrate PLCs with SCADA/MES, support capital projects from spec to validation, and collaborate with IT on networks and safety systems. This role offers hands-on impact across equipment, data integrity, and cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and optimise PLC platforms across AB, Siemens, Omron, and Mitsubishi
- Support robotics systems from ABB, Fanuc, Mitsubishi
- Manage and improve vision systems (Keyence, Thingtrax)
- Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
- Develop and enforce PLC programming standards and governance
- Owner of backup/version control and change management
- Integrate PLC systems with SCADA/MES for data integrity and OEE reporting
- Support capital projects from specification to commissioning and validation
- Collaborate with IT on network infrastructure and machine safety systems
- Provide coaching and guidance to engineers to build automation capability site-wide
Key requirements
- Experience with Allen Bradley/Rockwell Studio 5000
- Experience with Siemens, Omron, or Mitsubishi PLCs
- Knowledge of robotics systems (ABB, Fanuc, Mitsubishi)
- Experience with industrial protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, RS232/485)
- Experience integrating PLC with SCADA/MES platforms
- Strong fault-finding and root cause analysis skills
- Experience with machine safety principles and safety PLCs
- Experience with vision systems (Keyence, Thingtrax) is desirable
- Fast-paced food manufacturing experience desirable
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently and cross-functionally
