Overview

As a Maritime Structural Engineer at Jacobs, you will develop detailed design solutions for quay walls, jetties, breakwaters and other maritime facilities. You will perform structural design and assessments (manual and with STAAD Pro/ANSYS), inspect sites, and coordinate design on-site. You’ll prepare client deliverables and contract documents while supporting project management using BIM and collaborative tools. The role focuses on delivering safe, robust maritime infrastructure to UK and international clients and advancing decarbonisation and climate resilience. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to shape solutions and mentor peers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed design solutions for maritime infrastructure (quay walls, jetties, breakwaters, ferry terminals, shipyards)
  • Carry out structural design and assessment calculations using software like STAAD Pro and ANSYS
  • Participate in site-based structural inspections and provide design coordination on site
  • Produce client deliverables (design reports, feasibility reports, inspection reports, calculation packages)
  • Lead the preparation of contract documents, bills of quantities and specifications
  • Support project planning and delivery using BIM and other collaborative software and processes
  • Identify and manage Early Warning issues, change requests and compensation events
  • Provide technical guidance and development support to colleagues and peers

Key requirements

  • Chartered (or working towards Chartered status)
  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Experience in the design and engineering of maritime structures
  • Knowledge of British/international standards and/or Eurocodes
  • Strong analytical skills and structural theory
  • Proven problem-solving ability
  • Collaborative with stakeholders at all levels
  • Track record of delivering maritime projects in a multidisciplinary team
