Senior Structural Engineer (Major Projects)

Overview

In this Senior Engineer role you will lead complex structural and geotechnical design projects, guiding delivery across Cat2–Cat3 schemes. You’ll mentor junior engineers, ensure compliance with regulations, and drive continuous improvements in design processes. You work closely with cross-functional teams to apply best practices and safe working methods. This is an hands-on leadership position at Groundforce, blending technical excellence with project planning and delivery impact.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver high-quality design solutions for Cat2 and Cat3 schemes
• Manage day-to-day engineering workload and coordinate across project teams
• Design bespoke structural and geotechnical components
• Ensure designs comply with current regulations and best practices
• Supervise and mentor Graduate and Design Engineers
• Collaborate with technical teams to balance workloads
• Apply CDM and health and safety requirements in practice
• Produce clear technical documentation and records
• Participate in project planning, progress tracking, and resource management
• Contribute to improvements in design processes and decision-making
• Engage in project-specific work ensuring timely, quality delivery

Key requirements

• Degree in civil and/or structural engineering or equivalent
• Minimum of 3 years’ post-graduate engineering experience
• Strong understanding of CDM Regulations and health and safety in engineering environments
• Proven ability to design and check structural and geotechnical schemes to a high standard
• Experience in workload management and supervision
• Strong documentation and record-keeping skills
• Ability to work independently and take initiative
• Knowledge of cost, buildability, and programme constraints
• Experienced user of Autodesk AutoCAD, MS Office; knowledge of Revit desirable
• Full UK driving licence
