Overview
In this role you will lead the mechanical design of data centre facilities within WSP’s Mission Critical Facilities team in London. You will work closely with cross-functional groups to deliver robust mechanical distribution systems and advise clients on suitable options. You’ll produce design development notes, specifications, and calculations while coordinating with Architects and Structural engineers. The role blends hands-on design leadership with mentorship, supporting project delivery from feasibility through installation observation. This is a chance to shape critical infrastructure for colocation, end users and enterprise clients at scale.

Responsibilities
- Lead the design of data centre mechanical systems and equipment
- Develop designs for mechanical distribution systems (CHW, HVAC, Fuel, LTHW)
- Provide client advisory on mechanical system options
- Produce design development notes, technical specifications, and tender documentation
- Coordinate with Architect and Structural disciplines
- Produce calculations and equipment specifications; monitor installation for compliance
- Contribute to feasibility studies and lead resource planning within the project team
- Provide design and technical guidance as part of an MEP leadership capacity
Key requirements
- Experience designing mechanical systems for data centres
- Chartered status (or working towards) with CIBSE or IMechE or equivalent
- Knowledge of UK/EU regulations and design guides
- Understanding of Uptime Institute Tier Classification
- Familiarity with TAS/IES and Hevacomp for work allocation
- Experience with RevitMEP and AutoCAD; ability to direct project work
