Senior Mechanical/Structural Engineer

Overview

In this role you will design and analyze components from concept to testing and production, focusing on submarine propulsor structures and multi-material assemblies. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and partner organisations to deliver robust, safe engineering solutions in demanding environments. Your work supports growth in defence and marine technology, mentoring colleagues and shaping technical strategy. Responsibilities

• Design and analysis of components and assemblies from concept through testing and production
• Deliver technical projects related to structural design of submarine propulsors
• Break down complex tasks and plan/execute work
• Collaborate with Project Management to task and control technical work
• Mentor and develop capabilities within the engineering community
• Encourage cross-team collaboration across the Group and wider technical teams
• Work with Safety Engineering to ensure regulatory and project-specific compliance
• Identify and develop joint technical strategies with partner organisations; support Business Development/Sales strategy
• Ensure programmes are conducted safely and highlight hazards
• Apply governance as a peer/independent reviewer where appropriate

Key requirements

• Strong knowledge of mechanical and structural engineering, including design processes and manufacturing principles
• Thorough understanding of safety regulations and applicable regulatory requirements
• Proficient in CAD software, particularly Siemens NX or SolidWorks
• Experience designing structures to recognised industry standards (Maritime, Defence, or Civil)
• Skilled in designing both metallic and composite structures
• Competent in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on complex structures and systems
