Overview
Join HDR as an Associate Structural Engineer to help design and deliver resilient transportation structures. You will work within HDR’s Structures/Transportation group to manage projects, ensure technical excellence, and support client-focused delivery. You’ll contribute to high-quality design from concept to construction, while upholding safety, regulatory compliance, and budget considerations. Responsibilities
- Lead structural engineering projects from concept to detailed design, tender, on-site supervision, and completion
- Ensure designs and reports meet consistent quality standards through in-house reviews
- Support project delivery by defining client briefs, technical requirements, scope, and deliverables
- Implement QA systems and health and safety procedures on projects
- Monitor progress, variations, and budgets; coordinate with design teams for cohesive, compliant designs
- Maintain client relationships and pursue repeat business; prepare bids and responses to tenders
- Adhere to Engineering Contracts and latest health and safety regulations; promote professional indemnity protection
- Support resource planning and contribute to cross-disciplinary collaboration
Key requirements
- Degree-qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Chartered or working towards Chartership (IStructE or ICE preferred)
- Minimum 6 years’ industry experience in design consultancy across aviation, highway/roads, rail/transit, and maritime
- Strong knowledge of UK design standards and regulations
- Proficiency with Tekla, Tedds, ETABS, Robot, Revit
- Experience as Designer and understanding of CDM 2015 roles
- Experience producing client bids and proposals; financial planning and contractual assessments
- Commercial awareness and ability to manage project finances
- Confident communicator with leadership ambition
