Overview
Join SOM London as a senior Structural Engineering Design Leader to shape ambitious, architecturally led projects worldwide. You will act as a design voice from concept to delivery, integrating structurally led solutions with engineering excellence. In a collaborative, design‑driven culture, you’ll mentor talent and articulate compelling design narratives to partners and clients. Responsibilities
- Champion the design process from early concept through to late stage delivery, ensuring constructability, performance, and quality
- Lead on structural engineering design, analysis and coordination to resolve complex challenges with creativity and clarity
- Mentor the next generation of talent and contribute to a dynamic, design‑led culture
- Articulate compelling design narratives to peers, architects and clients, and inspire collaborators and elevate SOM’s global presence
Key requirements
- 10+ years of experience leading a wide range of complex projects, large scale in major building materials
- Chartered with IStructE (preferred) or ICE
- Technical proficiency and knowledge of structural systems and software
- Strong knowledge of designing to UK, European and other International Building Codes
- Passionate advocate for innovative, efficient and sustainable design
- Natural leader who energizes interdisciplinary teams to achieve design excellence
- Articulate communicator capable of documenting and presenting design concepts across settings
- Active design voice and ability to promote thought leadership, mentorship, and advocacy within the London Structural team and broader firmwide engineering community
