Apply for the Staff Robotics Engineer, Localisation
Location: London
Job Description:

Overview

In this senior, individual-contributor role, you will shape Wayve’s onboard localisation architecture and lead production-ready state-estimation systems that fuse GNSS, IMU and wheel odometry. You’ll collaborate across robotics, calibration, controls, sensors and embedded software teams to ensure robust, real-time localisation. You’ll mentor engineers and drive the state-estimation stack from prototype to deployment, enabling vehicle platforms to operate reliably across environments.

Pay / Benefits

  • hybrid working policy

Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve the onboard localisation architecture and roadmap aligned with vehicle programmes and product requirements
  • Lead development of robust state-estimation systems that fuse GNSS, IMU and wheel-odometry signals with potential camera-, RADAR- and LiDAR-based measurements
  • Transition localisation solutions from design to production on real-time vehicle platforms, including fault handling and degraded-mode behavior
  • Develop rigorous validation and benchmarking capabilities with datasets, ground-truth comparisons, metrics and regression testing
  • Provide hands-on leadership and mentorship across robotics, calibration, controls, sensors and vehicle-platform teams to drive integration and resolve system-level issues

Key requirements

  • Deep practical expertise in localisation, state estimation or sensor fusion with GNSS, IMU and wheel-odometry
  • Strong filtering-based estimation methods knowledge (Kalman-family EKF/UKF) and nonlinear optimisation (factor graphs)
  • Experience deploying localisation/state-estimation systems in production robotics or autonomous-vehicle contexts
  • Strong C++ software-engineering skills and Python for prototyping and tooling
  • Proven ability to design validation/benchmarking processes with accuracy metrics, uncertainty evaluation, ground-truth comparisons and regression testing
  • Hands-on technical leadership including architecture definition, roadmap influence, and cross-team collaboration
  • Technical leadership
  • Cross-functional collaboration
  • Mentoring and coaching
  • Camera-, LiDAR- or RADAR-based measurements integration into localisation
  • Nonlinear optimisation libraries (GTSAM, Ceres, g2o)
  • Automotive software practices and MISRA C++ familiarity
