Overview

In this site-based role, you will support the commercial management of a major capital programme, focusing on cost control and commercial governance. You’ll work with a cross-functional team to manage GMP procurement, contract administration, and final accounts, ensuring robust financial performance. You’ll engage with contractors, consultants and client representatives to deliver observable project value. This position offers hands-on impact on a hyperscale data centre programme and opportunities to mentor colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Support Commercial Director in commercial management from procurement to final account
  • Lead or assist GMP package development and conversion to contract sums
  • Manage key packages (MEP, enabling works, civils, piling, structures, steel, architectural, CSA)
  • Close-out of final accounts with contractors and supply chain
  • Administer contracts and governance, including FIDIC processes
  • Prepare/review valuations, payment recommendations and change control
  • Contribute to cost reports, forecasts, CVRs, and executive dashboards
  • Review tender analyses and contractor reports
  • Monitor cost performance within financial systems and budgets
  • Support risk management, opportunities, and contingencies
  • Provide commercial insights to inform decisions
  • Escalate risks to senior stakeholders
  • Collaborate with design, PMO, construction, procurement and commissioning teams
  • Foster a collaborative culture, knowledge sharing and best practice
  • Mentor junior team members on technical and programme matters
  • Support service innovation in cost and commercial management

Key requirements

  • Experience in cost and commercial management on complex construction or infrastructure projects
  • Strong post-contract experience: change control, valuations, forecasting, final accounts
  • Experience supporting commercial delivery across major work packages on large/complex projects
  • Ability to work with contractors, consultants and client stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills for data interpretation and commercial insights
  • Experience mentoring or coaching junior colleagues
  • Desirable: data centre/industrial/mission-critical projects, GMP procurement familiarity, FIDIC contract administration, site-based project experience
  • Degree or equivalent in quantity surveying, commercial management, construction management or related discipline, or professional status/qualification or working towards it
