Overview

In this Principal Process Engineer role you lead clean water process design across treatment, resource, and infrastructure projects within Stantec’s national water team. You will guide concept-to-implementation, ensure robust, sustainable solutions, and support strategic water resource initiatives. The position offers influence over project outcomes, ongoing asset optimisation, and opportunities to mentor engineers while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Responsibilities

  • Lead development and delivery of clean water process engineering solutions across treatment, resource, and infrastructure projects
  • Develop and review process designs, calculations, mass balances, hydraulic assessments, and technical specifications
  • Provide technical leadership to ensure robust and practical solutions aligned with client requirements
  • Support strategic water resource projects including water transfer, storage, recycling, and long-term supply resilience
  • Contribute to optimisation of existing treatment assets via investigations, performance assessments, and site testing (jar testing, pilot trials)
  • Collaborate with civil, mechanical, electrical, environmental, and hydraulic specialists for integrated solutions
  • Build strong client relationships and contribute technical expertise to business plans, bids, and framework opportunities
  • Mentor and develop engineers within the Process Engineering team and promote best practices
  • Collaborate with global teams to share knowledge and apply international experience to UK water challenges

Key requirements

  • Degree qualified in Chemical or Process, or a related discipline
  • Significant experience in clean water or wastewater process engineering
  • Strong technical experience across clean water treatment processes, process design and/or operational optimisation
  • Experience developing and reviewing process calculations, mass balances, hydraulic assessments and technical deliverables
  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership across complex multidisciplinary projects
  • Strong understanding of UK water industry challenges, standards and best practice
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
