Overview

In this role you will support a talented water engineering team in Scotland, helping deliver major water and wastewater infrastructure programmes. You will shape process design and improve operational philosophies across large-scale projects like the SR27 Enterprise for Scottish Water. You’ll work across design, client collaboration and delivery teams to enable efficient, compliant solutions that align with AECOM’s net-zero and value-driven goals. This is a hands-on opportunity to influence design excellence at scale and mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and check process flow diagrams, mass balance calculations, PIDs, process control and operating/control philosophies, and related design documents (FDS)
  • Perform asset surveys and site visits to assess existing processes and equipment
  • Produce and review client deliverables, make technical decisions, and involve specialists when needed
  • Ensure technical documents comply with design standards and legislation
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to secure stakeholder buy-in and contribute to innovative capability
  • Delegate tasks, supervise junior staff, and act as a technical mentor
  • Represent AECOM in technical meetings and work with multi-discipline engineers to deliver integrated solutions

Key requirements

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer status with IChemE or CIWEM
  • Extensive experience in water treatment and managing large-scale engineering projects
  • Experience leading Feasibility, Optioneering Studies and Detailed Design for water treatment processes
  • Ability as a mentor, checker and verifier; contribute to proposals and winning work
  • Knowledge of HAZOP processes; familiarity with DSEAR preferred
