Overview
In this role, you will lead P&C design efforts for high-voltage projects up to 400 kV, guiding concepts through detailed design and energisation. You’ll work within Stantec’s Energy Transition team to deliver safe, efficient protection solutions for clients across the UK, collaborating across disciplines on diverse schemes such as substations, HVDC, wind farms, and interconnectors. You’ll assess and specify P&C equipment, review third-party designs, and support commissioning. Responsibilities
- Develop scoping documents and Main Connections & Protection Diagrams
- Review P&C designs prepared by third parties
- Specify P&C equipment (relays, CTs, VTs)
- Produce detailed AC/DC schematics
- Conduct protection grading studies, create relay files and settings
- Review Commissioning Plans and participate in Commissioning Panel meetings
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in electrical engineering or related field
- Experience as a Senior/Principal Protection & Control Design Engineer on Distribution Networks
- Knowledge of protection relays, relay panels, CT/VT sizing, grading studies, and detailed AC/DC drawings
- Familiarity with UK electrical practices and standards; awareness of CDM regulations
- Strong safety focus with risk mitigation experience
