HPC Engineer (Research Computing)

Overview

In this role, you will design, implement, and manage HPC clusters, cloud resources, and research data storage to empower scientists. You will mentor junior team members and partner with IT and scientific units to deliver high-quality, reliable services. You’ll help integrate instruments with data management platforms and provide training on best practices for data handling. This is a hands-on, greenfield initiative focused on accelerating scientific computing and discovery. Your leadership, curiosity, and collaborative approach will shape how researchers access and manage data at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage HPC clusters, cloud resources, and research data storage systems
• Mentor junior team members and collaborate with IT departments to deliver reliable services
• Engage with scientific teams to integrate instruments with data management platforms
• Provide training and support on data management best practices
• Contribute to greenfield technical initiatives and drive impactful HPC solutions

Key requirements

• Experience with parallel storage systems (GPFS/Spectrum Scale or Lustre)
• Strong HPC systems knowledge
• Advanced Unix/Linux administration
• Ability to collaborate with scientific teams and communicate across technical and non-technical stakeholders
