Senior/Principal/Associate Civil/Structural Engineer

Overview

As a senior Civil & Structural Engineer, you will lead and shape the T&D civil and structural design for substation and transmission projects. You’ll act as Design Manager and technical lead, mentoring junior engineers and ensuring UK standards compliance. The role blends technical leadership with training, client-facing support, and proposals input to grow Ramboll’s T&D capability in the UK. You will influence project delivery and contribute to long-term service growth in a collaborative, values-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Act as Design Manager / Lead Engineer for T&D civil and structural projects
• Lead design delivery for substations, OHL foundations, cable routes and related infrastructure
• Ensure compliance with UK standards, Eurocodes, BS EN, National Grid/DNO specifications and CDM
• Review, approve and mentor junior/medior designs; manage design risk and value engineering
• Lead the training strategy for civil and structural engineers in T&D; deliver technical and standards training and workshops
• Mentor graduates and mid-level engineers
• Attend client, bid and marketing meetings as senior technical representative; support bid strategy, scope, technical proposals, cost and programme input
• Build long-term relationships with DNOs, National Grid, ICPs and EPC contractors
• Contribute to project planning, resourcing and risk management; support growth of the T&D service offering
• Support innovation, digital engineering and design efficiency initiatives

Key requirements

• BEng or MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE / MIStructE)
• 10+ years in civil & structural engineering with strong T&D exposure
• Experience in transmission & distribution infrastructure including substations and power networks
• Experience with National Grid and UK DNOs (e.g., UK Power Networks, SSEN, SPEN, WPD)
• Experience in framework delivery environments
• Proven Lead Engineer, Design Manager or Technical Authority
• Strong knowledge of UK design standards, Eurocodes and CDM Regulations
• Confident client-facing communicator
• Experience leading and mentoring engineers
• Full UK driving licence
