Engineering Manager – Research Engineering

Overview

In this Engineering Manager role, you lead a Research Engineering team that partners with quants to deliver trading models and the research platform. You drive people development, performance, culture, and hiring while coordinating with technical leads on architecture and direction. You will shape an aligned roadmap, improve delivery velocity, and ensure your team’s work supports organizational goals. This is a hands-on people-leadership role in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment.

Responsibilities

• Own the roadmap: prioritize, plan, and sequence work aligned with company goals
• Develop engineers: career planning, promotions, coaching, and ongoing performance management
• Plan and build the team: hiring, headcount planning, and resource allocation
• Cultivate a healthy team: manage culture, morale, productivity, and address conflicts
• Lead with rhythm: conduct regular one-on-ones, give timely feedback, and team-building
• Translate requirements into delivery plans and identify dependencies and risks
• Act as liaison between Engineering, Trading, and Quant teams to design and roll out new products
• Drive delivery predictability: track progress, manage risk/scope, and report status
• Continuously improve delivery processes and team velocity
• Ensure alignment with organizational goals, collaborating with Tech Leads and Staff Engineers on research and direction

Key requirements

• Strong people-leadership: coaching, feedback, conflict resolution, thriving team environment
• Strong project management: roadmaps, sequencing, dependency/risk management, delivery in fast-moving settings
• Technical or research background to engage credibly with engineers
• Experience leading and growing applied researchers and software engineers
• Track record delivering applied research through a team balancing scope, quality, and timelines
• Sound judgment in hiring and talent development
• Excellent communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including cross-functional collaboration (Trading, Quant)
• Based in Amsterdam or willing to relocate
