Overview
In this role you will lead mechanical design and integration for Turbine Island within the Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and suppliers to ensure compliant, fit-for-purpose designs that meet safety and licensing requirements. You will drive optioneering, functional design definitions, and design reviews while supporting risk analyses and project interfaces. This is a hands-on, impact-focused position in a regulated, safety-critical sector with opportunities to influence plant-wide integration and safety outcomes.

Responsibilities
- Assess supplier deliverables against requirements and critically review designs
- Create and review P&ID, PFD, Layout Drawings, sizing calculations, datasheets, and specifications
- Lead optioneering studies and prepare design documentation (Decision Records, Design Descriptions, Requirements Specifications)
- Develop and apply Systems Engineering to Functional and Design Requirements
- Integrate Turbine Island design into the wider power plant
- Provide technical contact for Turbine Island interfaces and stakeholder activities
- Participate in Design Reviews and HAZID/HAZOP with multidisciplinary teams
- Coordinate with safety teams on nuclear safety licensing, environmental planning, and permitting
- Ensure compliance with statutory H&S policies and Quality Management System
Key requirements
- Experience in nuclear, thermal power, oil & gas, or other regulated sectors
- Experience with steam turbines, condensers, feedwater heaters, pumps, and piping systems
- Strong thermal power background from FEED to detailed design and EPC delivery
- Procurement specification development and supplier collaboration
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and project management for major interfaces
- Safety knowledge including UK regulations, HAZOP, and relevant engineering standards
- Knowledge of ASME, European, and UK codes and standards
- Systems Engineering awareness or experience
- Bachelor in Engineering (or equivalent) and professional registration (CEng or working towards)
- SC security clearance or ability to obtain
