Overview
In this role you will lead empirical research for the ERC Nuclear Echoes project, shaping Case Study 1 on Nuclear Commemoration in Non-Nuclear Weapons States. You will conduct multi-phase research, including fieldwork abroad, data collection, and analysis, contributing to a project database and theory-building work. You will publish and present findings at international venues, coordinating with the PI and team. The position offers opportunities to collaborate across CSNS and CNSS centers and to grow through training in new methods.

Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver Case Study 1 for the ERC Nuclear Echoes project, defining research questions and selecting comparative cases
- Design and conduct empirical research across three project phases: exploratory/desk research, data collection, analysis and write-up
- Perform fieldwork abroad and engage with the project’s data and theory-building strands
- Contribute findings to the project database and assist in coordinating publications (single-authored and co-authored)
- Present findings at international conferences and organize panels or roundtables when appropriate
- Engage in collaborative project life: team meetings, seminars, and workshops
- Prepare shorter briefs or blog posts as opportunities arise
- Support the wider project community within CSNS and CNSS research centres
Key requirements
- PhD in International Relations or adjacent discipline (submitted by start date)
- Research expertise in nuclear politics and/or memory studies
- Ability to design and conduct independent empirical research including fieldwork
- Emerging record of, or potential for, peer-reviewed publication
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Mentoring or capacity to contribute to academic communities
- Qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
- Experience with fieldwork and data collection
- Interest in comparative case study research
