Project Director

Overview

In this role you lead the delivery of HV transmission and complex civil projects within Murphy’s Energy Team for National Grid, Linear Projects. You ensure safe, on-time, quality delivery while achieving financial targets and setting project-wide standards. You will build and line-manage a high-performance delivery team, coordinate with clients and stakeholders, and guide cost/resource forecasting and procurement. This position offers strategic influence across projects and a focus on innovation and sustainability in energy transition.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe, on-time delivery to required quality and financial outcomes
• Set and enforce project/contract standards and policies
• Build and develop the operational/project management team and line-manage Project Managers
• Manage the fit-to-start process to enable controlled mobilization
• Ensure effective handover from work winning to delivery
• Develop and maintain client and stakeholder relationships
• Lead detailed project cost forecasting and regular updates
• Lead resource forecasting (staff, labour, plant, materials) aligned with programme
• Support procurement of suppliers and sub-contractors
• Lead improvements to achieve financial objectives and betterment
• Lead tender strategy and win themes

Key requirements

• Experience delivering HV transmission projects (132kV–400kV) or major civil projects
• Experience as Project Director or Senior Manager
• HNC/HND
• Strong commercial and contractual awareness
• Experience on complex multi-discipline enhancement projects with programme and cost controls
• Excellent stakeholder management and client/subcontractor relationship skills
